How I began to Understand My Late Night Snacking

Recently I haven’t been able to sleep. Since I’ve been up I’ve been pacing downstairs in the kitchen thinking of things to write and what tasks I have to do next. All of this should be done during the day, but it’s not. I’m up working and it’s way past anyone’s bedtime. While I was up I began to get hungry and ended up making sushi at one in the morning.

After midnight I should be tucked in my covers but I find it rather hard to fall asleep during that time. I get a random boost of energy around eleven o’clock anyway. I have tried some different sleep aids in the past and they actually work, but the problem is that I’ve taken them so much that my body has become used to them. But I would recommend them to others.

The first thing I went to was Benadryl. I used to take two at a time to sleep through the night. It also helped with my allergies. So it was a win-win. But I didn’t want to get hooked on a medicine, so I decided to not continue taking them.

I eventually began to take melatonin. I liked the way this worked, but it didn’t knock me out like Benadryl. It took me a little longer to fall asleep, but when I did sleep I slept pretty well. But my body got used to taking it. Some of the supplements are meant to be taken a few times, but not all the time.

Last, but not least I was given a supplement by my mother. She had done some research and gave me a box of pills I was supposed to take for a month. They were yellow and large and smelled weird. It was called Alteril. I took them every day because they helped me sleep. These were the only supplements that really knocked me out. I took them for two months before I realized my real problem was insomnia.

I have thought about the possibility of having insomnia for many years now. It wasn’t until my mother had suggested the idea, that I thought that it could be true. Insomnia is not uncommon. With a quick google search, I actual found out how common it is. Knowing about what’s wrong with me makes everything make sense. I stay up all night and when I do go to sleep I’m tired.

I used to think maybe I was lazy or something, but that is absolutely not the problem. I’m not sleeping well and it is affecting my everyday life.

How do you deal with insomnia?

For starters, you don’t take more Benadryl. Taking more than two just makes you drowsy and it’s dangerous. I have taken two Benadryl before and not fallen asleep. Although these methods may have worked in the past, they stopped working. I thought it was because my body had grown used to medicine, but it was also because it wasn’t enough to get me to sleep.

What I need is professional help, but who wants to take more medicine. That would keep me asleep, but I didn’t want to keep relying on drugs to keep me sleep. But maybe it would train me to stay asleep. Thinking the worse won’t make you feel better. I want to go to sleep and get a good night’s rest for the first time in ages.

Insomia is one of the things that I have been battling against for so long. There was a time that I needed to take sleeping pills too but I figured that even if it was vegan product, it still affect my kidneys and liver. So I developed a morning and evening routine. I’m always juggling a lot of things. So I wake up the same time everyday, nap in the afternoon, workout and go to bed at least before 10 pm. it is still hard. I still find myself getting up to write around 12 or even 1 in the morning and grab something to eat. But reading a book entitled, Eat Yourself Calm has been helping so much.
