How To Not Be Anxious About Politics

If you live in America you have survived the constant torture of American politics. It is always easy to tell when an election is coming up especially when you watch tv. The constant slandering of each candidate and fear instilled in citizens about things they knew nothing about or even cared about.

Not every American is heavily into politics so when new issues come up, it is easy to become uneasy and anxious. Although you want to be informed about your country’s issues you can’t get rid of that feeling in the pit of your stomach. So what do you do?

Don’t watch the news.

Watching the news sometimes is great, but keeping up with it is bad. When you continuously watch the news you feed into your anxious thoughts. There is no knowing what is actually going to happen next in this country. Don’t get hung up on the details. If a topic is important to you look it up occasionally. Don’t get too involved in a topic that it causes you to become stressed or if it leads you to compulsion thinking.

Stay off of Twitter and Facebook.

If you are triggered by anything political don’t go to social media. Facebook and Twitter have millions of users and each has an opinion on the topic. The best way to avoid them is to stay off of social media or unfollow the people that raise your blood pressure the most.

Don’t argue with people about political topics.

This one can be tricky. People want to have their opinions heard. People also want to prove that their way is right. Arguing will not help your anxiety. Make sure you steer the conversation away from arguments if it heads into that direction. Also be the bigger man, walk away if you have too. Don’t allow people’s words to be stuck in your head. Don’t dwell on thoughts from past arguments, you will make yourself angry and possibly angry again and again.

Don’t post about political topics.

This one is hard. A lot of times we want to voice our opinions because we are reading what other people are saying. We have to give our two cents because no one is saying what we are thinking. Don’t feed into the politics. You will get into arguments and you will put yourself in a state you never wanted to be in.

Don’t research any political topics.

You will feel anxious by some of the headlines you read. You will feel as though the world is coming to an end. Try and think of more positive things that make you happy. Stay with positive topics. This may be hard with the type of news we have but put forth your best effort.

Here are a few ways to keep your anxiety down. If you have different ways comment below!

I do not get anxiety but I do get irritated by others whoms views may not be the same as my own, so these tips ring true in many areas including anxiety. Great read
