Talking is Healing

In my family, we like to keep our problems to ourselves. It seems better to hide away and not talk about ourselves, but that isn’t the case. We hide because we are embarrassed about the things that have happened in our households. We try to cover the shame by trying to appear perfect all the time.

What I am about to tell you is a fact, it’s impossible to be perfect. If perfection existed we wouldn’t have problems. I am learning this the hard way. As I understand my OCD, I learn that not everything can be controlled.

Me my mom, my aunt, and my cousin all sat around at two tables in Chick-Fil-A and talked openly about the situations we had been going through over the years. I found out that our household we one in the same.

What you are going through someone else is going through it also, they just won’t admit it. But no one wants to admit to their problems. It’s easy to think that you are the only one, but that makes you feel isolated from everyone else.

I’m going to tell you another fact, you are never alone. People are more similar than you think and our problems are the same, no matter where you come from or what you look like. Don’t hide what you’re going through, it can really help to talk. Talking is healing.
